Overview & Import Process

TikTok is powerful for short-form raw footage and real-time awareness during fast-moving events (BLM, campus encampments, anti-ICE actions). Lives are more ephemeral and discovery is algorithmic.

Current Limitations
  • yt-dlp LIVE support is limited and frequently requires cookies/login; success rate is low for long captures.
  • No stable public embed for long-form persistent playback in the SPA (Reels are short).
  • Handles rotate quickly for anonymous accounts; heavy anti-scraping.
  • Discovery is best via X semantic search ("tiktok live" + event) or Firecrawl on trending tags/profiles rather than direct APIs.
  • Content is short-form by design; pair with longer YT/Twitch for context.
How to Import Video Feeds
  1. Discovery: Agent x_keyword_search or semantic search for "tiktok protest live" + location. Firecrawl on known profiles (e.g. taylorlorenz). Use sources.json keywords.
  2. Capture: yt-dlp on TikTok live URLs (fresh cookies often mandatory). Browser save or screen record for important clips. Save media/descriptions to research/.
  3. Intel: Manual captions + visual analysis into research/rss_items/ or tips/. Run generate-data.py to surface in the Intel Library.
  4. Site: Manual entry in active_protest_streams.json (platform: "tiktok"). Link out from Monitor; no native long player yet. Use for rapid visual alerts.
  5. Cross-reference with X for announcements of TikTok lives.

TikTok is primarily text/visual intel in the Library (via agent-processed items or manual entries). Add clips/descriptions to research/ for generate-data.py. Monitor sidebar can list as sources with links. Video is short-form; use alongside longer YT/Twitch streams. Discovery note in sources.json highlights cookie/login needs for yt-dlp.

Ideal for early signals and viral moments that feed into escalation analysis.
